I am a non-disabled, cisgender, heterosexual, South Asian woman. I am second generation settler (child to immigrant settlers). My matriarchal family roots lay in India and my patriarchal family roots lay in both Pakistan and India. Both sides of my family were touched and displaced by the partition in 1947, and were impacted by war. I offer counselling services in Vancouver, BC on stolen xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) lands. I was born and raised in so-called Lower Mainland and also spent time learning and living in Kelowna, BC on stolen Syilx Okanagan lands.
I am a Registered Social Worker with my master’s in social work. My previous work includes helping and advocating for those who have experienced intimate partner violence and sexual violence and past research experience in burnout. I am currently learning more about Generative Somatics, Internal Family Systems, and Complex Trauma.
Outside of being a counsellor, I am also a competitive powerlifter, slow-reading bookworm, metal music-enjoyer, musician, at-home baker, and cross-stitcher. I find humour in the balance I hold with the rough and toughness while I’m in the outside world being in powerlifting and listening to metal music, but while I’m inside my home, I find joy in the softer things in life.
